THE NEW NATIONAL SPORTS SELECTION COMMITTEE ASSEMBLED AT OCDS

The newly appointed National Sports Selection Committee headed by the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil assembled at the Office of the Chief of Defence Staff (OCDS) today (28 December 2023).

Speaking in the meeting, the CDS warmly welcomed the newly appointed committee members Dr Maiya Gunasekara, Mr Arjun Fernando, Mr Suresh Subramaniam, Mr Nalinda Sampath Illangakoon, and Ms Anuradha Illeperuma and discussed the next year’s functions of the committee. The meeting was open for the members to express their suggestions whereas the committee members contributed effectively to the discussions aimed at the development of all Sri Lankan sports disciplines.

The meeting was also later joined by the newly appointed Sri Lanka Cricket Selection Committee head, the former cricketer Mr Upul Tharanga along with its member former cricketer Mr Tharanga Paranawithana. The CDS congratulating the new cricket selection committee head and member, explained the national sports selection committee proceeding. During the meeting, both committees cleared ambiguities related to their future tasks.

Mr Upul Tharanga also expressed his ideas for the betterment of the sport and assured the fullest commitment and dedication to uplift Sri Lanka Cricket back to its past glory. He also requested the assistance of the Head of the National Sports Selection Committee along with its members.
