NEW VICE CHANCELLOR OF KDU PAYS A COURTESY CALL ON CDS

Respecting the tradition, the new Vice Chancellor (VC) of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, Rear Admiral Dammika Kumara, VSV, USP, psc, MMaritimePol, BSc (DS), paid a courtesy call on the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil today (06 September) at the Office of the Chief of Defence Staff (OCDS).

On the arrival at the office, the CDS extended a warm welcome to the visiting Vice Chancellor and congratulated him for the new appointment whilst appreciating his military gesture.

The CDS sharing his thoughts highlighted the importance of focusing on modernizing the curriculum, promoting research and innovation, and nurturing a culture of excellence among students and faculties. The CDS also shared his expertise and novel ideas that can align the esteemed institute with the evolving demands of the military and the broader national security landscape. Further, the CDS assured his continuous assistance for future initiatives, partnerships, and strategies that will further enhance the university's role as a leading institution in defence studies.

Rear Admiral Dammika Kumara was the Commander Eastern Naval Area and Commandant Volunteer Naval Force before assuming the office at his new appointment. Rear Admiral Kumara who replaced the previous Vice Chancellor holds a distinguished career record marked by excellence and leadership. With his new appointment, Rear Admiral Kumara is poised to bring fresh perspectives and drive positive changes to the esteemed institution.

The VC also thanked the CDS for all the support extended for the improvement of the KDU and requested continued guidance and assistance in the future as well.

The customary meeting that took place today reflects the collaborative spirit and synergy between the academic and military leadership in the country and it underscores the critical role of the defence university in shaping the future of the country's armed forces and national security.

The cordial meeting culminated with the exchange of plaques to mark the occasion.
