NEWLY APPOINTED AMBASSADOR OF SRI LANKA TO GERMANY VISITS CDS

Ms Lanka Varuni Muthukumarana who was designated as the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Federal Republic of Germany paid a courtesy visit to General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) at his office before leaving. She is also accredited as the Ambassador to Switzerland.

Ms Varuni Muthukumarana began her career in the Sri Lanka Foreign Service in the year 2000 as an Assistant Director attached to the Economic Affairs Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The CDS also made time to share his wealth of diplomatic experience with the visiting designated ambassador. He highlighted that the recently held ‘Defence Attaches Orientation course in Defence Diplomacy’ sponsored by the Geneva Center for Security Policy (GCSP), Switzerland in collaboration with the Office of the Chief of Defence Staff was a great success. He further said that the programme has now become an annual event that benefits defence diplomats. Therefore, the CDS conveyed his thankfulness and gratitude to the government of Switzerland for the continued and strong relations maintained with the Sri Lankan Armed Forces.

General Shavendra Silva emphasizing the importance of military diplomacy requested the new ambassador designated to seek maximum opportunities for the Sri Lankan Armed Forces personalities to uplift their professionalism in the means of courses, seminars and etc.

He congratulated her on the new appointment and expressed his good wishes for a progressive future. To mark the event the mementoes were exchanged at the culmination of the brief meeting.
