THE NEWLY APPOINTED NATIONAL SPORTS SELECTION COMMITTEE ASSEMBLES AT OCDS

The newly appointed National Sports Selection Committee had its first committee meeting at the Office of Chief of Defence Staff this afternoon (07 October 2022). Chairing the session, the Chief of Defence Staff and head of the committee, General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil welcomed the new committee members. He also gratefully recalled the dedication and untiring commitment of former members of the committee and expressed his gratitude for their exceptional service rendered during the last two years.

The CDS and the head of the National Sports Selection Committee also appreciated the concern and the will of the new members by volunteering to shoulder this additional weight. He further stressed the importance of a transparent and impartial selection process for the betterment of the national sports. Streamlining the committee responsibilities to meet the objectives of the Ministry of Sports in line with the vision of Hon Roshan Ranasinghe, Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs and Minister of Irrigation, General Shavendra Silva wished the newly appointed committee members for their responsibilities.

The brief meeting was attended by the Secretary of the Committee Mr Arjun Rishya Fernando, Dr Maiya Gunasekara, Mr Prasanna Chandith, and Mr Sanath Jayasooriya. Ms Thilaka Jinadasa joined the meeting via online video conferencing platforms.
