THE NOBLE SACRIFICES OF GALLANT WAR HEROES ARE HONOURED AT THE 14TH WAR HERO COMMEMORATION DAY

A glowing tribute was paid to the gallant War Heroes of the Tri-Services, Police, and Civil Defence Forces who made the supreme sacrifice in the three decade drawn war in the fourteenth ‘National War Heroes Day Commemoration’ which got underway this evening (19 May) at the War Memorial in Parliament Grounds.

Adding dignity to this anniversary event, His Excellency the President and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Ranil Wickremesinghe graced the ceremony as the Chief Guest paying a glowing tribute to War Heroes of all Tri-services, Police, and Civil Defence Forces on behalf of the Nation.

National Anthem was sung to the melody of the Tri-Service band commencing the commemoration which was followed by Two-minute silence in honour of fallen War Heroes and patriots. All those attending the day’s mammoth commemoration paid a glowing tribute to a representative gathering of disabled Tri-Service and Police War Heroes in the parade after having stood from their chairs in honour of them as they entered the Monument premises. The Chief Guest and other invitees as well as the parents, wives, and relatives of the fallen War Heroes paid a floral tribute to the heroes of the nation who sacrificed their lives in endowing the peace the nation cherishes today.

The Prime Minister Hon Dinesh Gunawardena, National Security Advisor to the President Mr. Sagala Rathnayake, Chief of Defence Staff, General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil also attended the ceremony. Parliamentarians, Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, Tri-Forces Commanders, the IGP, Relatives of the War Heroes and disabled War Heroes were also among the invitees of this year's commemoration ceremony. The historic event was also attended by a number of retired and serving Tri-Service, Police, and STF Senior Officers and Other Ranks.
