OCDS CONDUCTS AWARENESS WORKSHOP FOR POLICE OFFICERS ON UAVS AND AERIAL PHOTOGRAPHY

The Office of the Chief of Defence Staff(OCDS) conducted an awareness workshop for Police Department Officers on UAV operations and aerial photography, today(11th December, 2017). \r\n\r\nTwenty five (25), Police OICs in the Western Province participated in the inaugural workshop this morning at the OCDS premises at the BMICH. \r\n\r\nThe awareness program initiated under the directives of the Chief of Defence Staff(CDS), Admiral Ravindra C. Wijegunaratne comprises a series of workshops intended at stirring alertness among law enforcement personnel to identify potential risks and threat implications to national security, related to commercial and recreational UAV and drone operations. \r\n\r\n“Object of this awareness program is not to deny or curtail the use of UAV and drones but to make understand that un-regularized usage does expose the greater community and critical infrastructure to undue risks. Hence, the best course of action is to make our law enforcement officials understand the dimensions involved in these operations”, said the Director Naval and Air operations - OCDS, Rear Admiral UB Sumanasekara. \r\n\r\nThe 1st stage of the series of workshops is to culminate on the 27th of January, 2018.
