OCDS CONDUCTS A TRAINING PROGRAMME FOR TRI SERVICE OFFICERS ON CYBER SECURITY

Office of the Chief of Defence Staff (OCDS) in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Team (SL CERT) successfully conducted a one-day training programme on Cyber Security for Tri Service officers on 27th April 2022 at the Regimental Headquarters of Sri Lanka Armoured Corps, Modara under the guidance of Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil.

This training programme focused on creating awareness on basics of Cyber Security and related concepts such as Cloud Computing, Insider Threat, Best Practices, Social Engineering and Future Trends. This was the 4th consecutive cyber security awareness programme conducted by OCDS and this timely significant training programme saw the participation of fifty seven Tri Service officers in the ranks of Lieutenant Colonel, Major, Captain, Lieutenant and equivalent ranks of the sister services.

Major General AC Lamahewa WWV RWP RSP USP, Director General General Staff at Office of the Chief of Defence Staff delivering the opening remarks of the day’s programme highlighted that cyber security is a discipline that covers how to defend devices and services from electronic attacks by nefarious actors such as hackers, spammers, and cybercriminals. He further added that while some components of cyber security are designed to strike first, most of today's professionals focus more on determining the best way to defend all assets, from computers and smart phones to networks and databases, from attacks.

Mr Poorna Wickramasinghe and Mr Sithira Hewarachchi, the resource personnel serving at the Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Team (SL CERT) conducted the programme and Brigadier Rohan Rajapaksha RSP , Director Training and Doctrine with Captain (Navy) EAIP Edirisinghe RSP USP psc – Col Training and Doctrine of OCDS joined the presentation of mementos appreciating their valuable contribution for the programme.
