OFFICE OF THE CHIEF OF DEFENCE STAFF COMMENCES THE FIRST WORKING DAY OF THE NEW YEAR 2024

The Office of the Chief of Defence Staff (OCDS) commenced the first working day of 2024 with a time-honoured tradition, the working parade.

Marking the occasion in accordance with government directives, the National Flag and OCDS flag were ceremoniously hoisted. The solemn proceedings began with a two-minute silence to honour the fallen war heroes, followed by the recitation of the State Allegiance Oath by all OCDS staff, in line with the government guidelines.

As per the direction of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil, the Chief of Staff (COS) of the OCDS Major General Asanga Perera Hdmc psc graced the day's event. Engaging with Officers, Other Ranks, and civil staff, the COS fostered camaraderie during an all-rank tea session enriched with traditional sweetmeats held at the Mihilaka Medura premises of the BMICH.

In the address to the gathered assembly, the COS paid tribute to the valiant war heroes those who made supreme sacrifices to bring peace to the nation. He urged all present to maintain the spirit of victory and to serve as proud members of the services, safeguarding the hard-earned peace for future generations. The COS also emphasised the importance of the contribution of the Armed Forces members to assist the government’s endeavour to mitigate the existing challenges. He further requested to serve the nation whilst refraining from the illegal activities that would tarnish the hard- earned image of the Sri Lankan Armed Forces.

On behalf of the CDS, Major General Asanga Perera extended warm New Year wishes to the OCDS staff, underscoring the significance of the day's simple programme. The event saw the attendance of Director Generals, Directors, officers, other ranks, and civil staff of OCDS, fostering a sense of unity and dedication as the New Year 2024 begins.
