PAKISTAN HIGH COMMISSIONER PAYS FAREWELL CALL ON CHIEF OF DEFENCE STAFF

In a warm and cordial meeting this afternoon (13 Dec 23), the High Commissioner of Pakistan, His Excellency Major General (R) Umar Farooq Burki, HI (M), paid his farewell call on the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil at the Office of the Chief of Defence Staff (OCDS).

The meeting served as an opportunity to reflect on the significant achievements of the outgoing High Commissioner in strengthening the long-standing and multifaceted relationship between the two countries, particularly in defence cooperation.

General Shavendra Silva expressed profound appreciation for the unwavering commitment and exceptional service rendered by the High Commissioner in significantly augmenting the bilateral defence ties to unprecedented levels. General Shavendra Silva conveyed his heartfelt gratitude to HE Major General (R) Umar Farooq Burki for the invaluable assistance offered to Sri Lanka and its people during arduous times. The CDS also highlighted the important quality of the High Commissioner for participating in all the invited occasions. General Shavendra Silva wished the outgoing High Commissioner a bright future whilst inviting to continue the strongly built ties between both nations.

Expressing confidence in the continued progress of the partnership, the High Commissioner acknowledged the shared values and commitment of the CDS to the security of the country and its people during the challenging times. He also highly spoke of the caliber of General Shavendra Silva in addressing different challenges.

Marking the significance of the occasion, the CDS presented a special memento, solidifying the enduring bond shared. The farewell call concluded on a positive note, reaffirming the unwavering commitment of both Pakistan and Sri Lanka to strengthening their defence partnership for the mutual benefit of both nations.
