PAKISTAN NAVAL SHIP (PNS) ‘SAIF’ HOSTS COLOURFUL RECEPTION AT COLOMBO PORT

Welcoming esteemed guests from various dignitary circles, the Pakistan Naval Ship (PNS) ‘SAIF’ currently docked at the port of Colombo hosted a vibrant on-board reception yesterday (31 January) evening.

At the invitation of the Acting High Commissioner of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Mr Wajid Hassan Hashmi together with the Commanding Officer of the naval ship ‘SAIF’, Captain Muhammad Ali PN, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil, along with his spouse Mrs Sujeewa Nelson attended the occasion strengthening the camaraderie and diplomatic ties between Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

On arrival, the CDS was greeted ceremonially adhering to the rich naval traditions and warmly received to the occasion. Expressing felicitations, the CDS conveyed warm regards to the Acting High Commissioner and the Commanding Officer cherishing the auspicious occasion.

The reception was also attended by Speaker of the Parliament, Honourable Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, Minister of Ports, Shipping and Aviation Honourable Nimal Siripala de Silva, State Minister of Defence, Honourable Premitha Bandara Tennakoon, a number of diplomats, Commanders of the Sri Lanka Army and Navy and a number of distinguished invitees.

PNS SAIF is a formidable 123-meter-long Sword Class Frigate manned by a dedicated crew of 276 personnel that arrived at the port of Colombo on a formal visit, signifying the enduring maritime partnership between Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

Underscoring the commitment of both nations to enhance maritime security and foster mutual cooperation in the region, PNS SAIF is scheduled to embark on a Passage Exercise (PASSEX) with a vessel of the Sri Lanka Navy in the waters of Colombo before her departure.

The reception serves as a testament to the bonds of friendship and goodwill shared between Pakistan and Sri Lanka, further strengthening the longstanding relationship between the two nations.
