PRESIDENT PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO NEW ATAMASTHANADHIPATHI

Most Venerable Pallegama Hemarathana Thero was appointed to the sacred appointment of Atamasthanadhipathi after the passing away of the Most Venerable Pallegama Sirinivasa Thero in October last year.

Upon the new appointment, the customary presentation of ‘Akta Pathra’ (Credentials) took place yesterday with the state sponsorship on the premises of Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi, Anuradhapura.

Hon President Ranil Wickremesinghe presented the ‘Akta Pathra’ to the new Atamasthanadhipathi amidst the performed religious blessings by the Maha Sanga. Afterward, the special ‘Vijinipatha’ to new Atamasthanadhipathi was presented by Hon. Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena.

Chief of Defence Staff, General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil also attended the event and was invited to present Pirikara to the new Atamasthanadhipathi.

The Maha Sanga of Tri Nikayas, former President, Speaker of the Parliament, many parliamentarians, Secretary of Defence, Tri-Service Commanders and many well-wishers participated in the event.
