PRESIDENTIAL SECRETARIAT WELCOMES IRANIAN PRESIDENT WITH STATE HONOURS

The esteemed visiting Iranian President, Dr. Ibrahim Raisi, was graciously received amidst a splendid Tri-Service Guard of Honour, magnificently exemplifying the warm reception extended to him at the Presidential Secretariat.

On his arrival, respecting the diplomatic protocols, the visiting President Dr. Ibrahim Raisi was welcomed to the Presidential Secretariat by His Excellency President Ranil Wickremesinghe with a red-carpet reception.

Thereafter, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil invited the President Dr. Ibrahim Raisi and His Excellency President Ranil Wickremesinghe to the special saluting dais for the Tri-Service Guard of Honour.

Following the protocol, a Guard of Honour was accorded to the visiting President Dr. Ibrahim Raisi. As a mark of respect and honour for the visiting Head of State, the sound of 21-gun salutes reverberated through the air, underscoring the significance of the occasion and the deepening bonds between Sri Lanka and Iran.

Afterwards, His Excellency the President introduced the hosting delegation attended including the Ministers, National Security Advisor, Secretaries to Ministries, and the CDS. There, the visiting President also introduced his delegation to President Ranil Wickremasinghe and the Sri Lankan dignitaries present.

The Iranian President, Dr. Ebrahim Raisi, arrived in Sri Lanka this morning (24 April) at the invitation of His Excellency President Ranil Wickremasinghe, marking a pivotal moment as he participated as the Chief Guest in the inauguration ceremony of the Uma Oya Multipurpose Development Project (UOMDP), a colossal endeavor in Sri Lankan irrigation history initiated with the assistance of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The Iranian President’s visit underscores the strong bond between the two nations and serves to further fortify bilateral relations.
