THE RUSSIAN DAY IS CELEBRATED WITH GRANDEUR

The Embassy of the Russian Federation to Sri Lanka celebrated its National Day in a unique and grand reception held at the Shangri-La Hotel, Colombo yesterday evening (08 June 2023).

This celebration was graced by the Minister of Education and Leader of the House of Parliament Hon. (Dr.) Susil Premajayantha as the Chief Guest.

At the invitation of the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Sri Lanka His Excellency Mr Levan Dzhagaryan, the Chief of Defence Staff General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil and his spouse Mrs Sujeewa Nelson attended the colourful reception. In the assurance of strong bilateral defence ties built over the years, the Ambassador and his spouse extended a warm welcome to the CDS and his spouse on arrival. Expressing his gratitude for the invitation extended, CDS extended warm wishes to His Excellency the Ambassador for their National Day. He also congratulated the Defence Attaché Colonel Nikolai S Dadochkin at this national milestone wishing him to discharge his mission successfully.

On June 12, 1990 Soviet leaders signed a declaration symbolising the beginning of democratic reforms in Russia. Accordingly, the Russians celebrate their National Day on 12 June annually as the establishment of an independent and sovereign nation brings fresh breath to its people.

Many Parliamentarians, Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy, Tri-service senior Officers, and prominent dignitaries including diplomats were also among the invitees to the celebration.
