SLINEX-2023 RECEPTION ON-BOARD

In parallel with the 10th edition of the bilateral maritime exercise between the Indian Navy and Sri Lanka Navy named ‘SLINEX-2023’ which commenced on 03rd April 2023, a reception was held at Indian Naval Ship, Passenger Terminal, Colombo Port in the evening hours on 04th April 2023 to which the Speaker of the Parliament, Hon Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena graced as the chief guest.

The Exercise; ‘SLINEX-2023’ that is scheduled to be conducted in two phases as the Harbour Phase and Sea Phase will see its conclusion on 8 April 2023. Through these types of exercises, it is expected to strengthen the mutual cooperation in the maritime domain. The joint exercise; SLINEX-2023 aims to enhance interoperability, mutual understanding and exchange best practices/procedures in multi-faceted maritime operations between both Navies.

At the invitation of the High Commissioner of India in Sri Lanka His Excellency Gopal Baglay, the Chief of Defence Staff General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil along with his spouse Mrs Sujeewa Nelson attended the reception on board. The CDS conveyed his gratefulness to the High Commissioner for the invitation extended and shared that this opportunity would open avenues for personnel from both navies to learn from each other, reinforce values and build bonds of friendship and camaraderie.

Many parliamentarians including the Sate Minister of Defence Hon Premitha Bandara Tennakoon were present at the occasion. A number of Diplomats, the Secretary of Defence, Tri-Service Commanders, government officials and many invited local and Indian senior naval officers also attended the evening.
