SPECIAL BOAT SQUADRON CELEBRATES 25TH ANNIVERSARY..

Members of Special Boat Squadron of Sri Lanka Navy proudly celebrated its 25th Anniversary on 09th November 2018 at Special Boat Squadron Headquarters, Trincomalee which was formed on 08th November 1993 co-founded by the present Chief of Defence Staff, Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne. The ceremony was began with overnight Pirith Chanting on 09th November 2018 followed by Alms Giving on following day morning for 25 no 's of monks. Thereafter, families of war heroes who paid the supreme sacrifice for the beloved motherland and war veterans who wounded in action were felicitated with gifts by the Chief of Defence Staff Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne and the members Special Boats Squadron at the Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda Auditorium in Trincomalee for their tremendous commitment. Two special gifts were presented by the Chief of Defence Staff, Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne, one to Mrs. D Martenstyn, the beloved wife of late Commander CD Martenstyn, the co-founder of the Special Boat Squadron and the other to Mrs Ruwani Dissanayake, beloved wife of Chief Petty Officer KG Shantha PWV, who has been the only sailor and the second naval person in the history of Sri Lanka Navy to be posthumously awarded with the country 's highest gallantry medal 'the Parama Weera Vibhushanaya ' for his valour and conspicuous breviary in the face of enemy. Opening of the newly built monument to commemorate those who died whilst on active duty was also ceremonially performed during the event. Relatives of the veterans who died in action got the opportunity to pay their respect to the monument along with other invitees of the event. Chief of Staff, Rear Admiral KKVPH De Silva, Commander Eastern Naval Area, Rear Admiral SA Weerasinghe, Director Naval Infantry, Rear Admiral UI Serasinghe, Flag Officer Commanding Naval Fleet, Rear Admiral AK Guruge, Director Naval Projects & Plans, Rear Admiral DSAAP Samarasinghe, Diector Maritime Special Forces, Commodore PDS Dias, former Commanding Officers of Special Boat Squadron and many other senior officers were present at this land mark ceremony.
