SRI LANKA UNVEILS NATIONAL HYDROGRAPHY OFFICE, MARKING A MILESTONE IN MARITIME SECURITY

In a historic moment for the nation, the Sri Lanka National Hydrography Office officially opened its doors today at the Naval Complex in Welisara. Gracing the occasion as the Chief Guest was State Minister of Defence, Honourable Premitha Bandara Tennakoon, who entered the premises ceremonially alongside other dignitaries.

The establishment of the Sri Lanka National Hydrography Office marks a significant step forward in the nation's maritime strategy. With its advanced technology and expertise, the office will contribute immensely to safeguarding the nation's maritime domain and expect a course for a prosperous maritime future.

At the invitation of the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera RSP USP ndc psc, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil, attended the ceremony. He was warmly welcomed and received by Vice Admiral Perera, and the CDS extended his congratulations to both the Commander and the Chief Hydrographer for their instrumental role in establishing this critical institution. The CDS further expressed his confidence that the National Hydrography Office will become vital in the field of hydrography, contributing significantly to the nation's maritime security and economic growth.

Speaking at the ceremony, State Minister Premitha Bandara Tennakoon underscored the strategic importance of the National Hydrography Office. He emphasized the crucial role it will play in ensuring safe navigation, promoting maritime trade and tourism, and safeguarding Sri Lanka's maritime resources.

The ceremony was further distinguished by the presence of numerous esteemed guests, including the Defence Secretary, Commanders of the Sri Lanka Army and Air Force, senior government dignitaries, and many Naval officers.
