High level military delegations from Malaysia, Thailand and Russia arrived in the island to attend the inaugural South and South East Asian (SASEAN) Defence Chiefs Dialogue held from 27th to 29th November 2014 in Colombo. A five member Malaysian Delegation lead by the Chief of Defence Force of Malaysia, General (Dr) Zulkifeli Mohammad Zin and four member delegation from Thailand lead by General Wattinum Leelayudth, Deputy Chief of Defence Forces of Thailand arrived in the country at midnight.
Hon Anatoly Antonov, Deputy Minister for Defence for Russian Federation and four other senior Russian military officers were received by General Jagath Jayasuriya, Chief of Defence Staff this morning at the Bandaranayake International Airport. Russia along with China is participating at this all important event as observers. The Defence Chiefs Dialogue which is held for the first time has received wide attention in the South and South East Asian region and 16 countries are expected participate.
