SRI LANKAN CHIEF OF DEFENCE STAFF HONOURED AT NATIONAL DEFENCE COLLEGE, INDIA

The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil received a prestigious honour from the National Defence College, India. General Shavendra Silva is the current Chief of Defence Staff of Sri Lanka. He is a highly decorated officer with over 39 years of experience in defence sector. General Shavendra Silva has served in various capacities, including Chief of Staff and Commander of the Sri Lanka Army.

The CDS during his official visit to India to grace the Passing Out Parade of the Indian Military Academy, visited the National Defence College (NDC), at the invitation of Commandant, Lieutenant General Sukriti Singh Dahiya SM VSM. Upon arrival, the CDS was warmly welcomed and expressed his gratitude for the opportunity. The CDS also commended the Commandant NDC for the excellent operation and maintenance of the standard of the National Defence College under his leadership.

The highlight of the visit came when General Silva was invited to unveil his portrait on the "Wall of Honour." This prestigious wall features portraits of proud alumnus of distinguished defence sector individuals who have reached the pinnacle appointments in their respective services. General Silva's inclusion on this wall is a testament to his sole dedication and illustrious service to the nation.

Following the unveiling ceremony, both General Silva and the Commandant NDC exchanged mementos to mark this special occasion. This visit and the inclusion of General Silva's portrait on the "Wall of Honour" further solidify the strong relationship between the two neighbouring nations.

The two senior officers engaged in a fruitful dialogue centered on sharing curriculum and novel dynamics of the ever changing landscape of defence concerns. The National Defence College which was established in 1960, is India's premier institution for training senior officers of the Armed Forces and civil services.
