The military funeral of late Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) of India General Bipin Rawat and his spouse Mrs Madhulika Rawat took place this afternoon (10) with full military honours at Brar Crematorium in Dhaula Quan, New Delhi, amidst Ministerial delegates, Foreign Diplomats, both foreign and local high ranking military dignitaries, Indian government administrators, Chiefs of the Army, Navy and Air Force Staff of the Indian Armed Forces, Senior Tri Service Officers, Family Members and a vast gathering of mourners.

Opening up whole new vistas for the country's defence establishment and elevating strategic decision-making on national security matters and statecraft to the dizzy heights, HE the President Gotabaya Rajapaksa this morning (11) unveiled a plaque and declared open the state-of-the-art intellectual think-tank, the new National Defence College (NDC) in Colombo 03, accredited to General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) at the invitation of General Kamal Gunaratne (Rtd), Secretary to the Ministry of Defence and the NDC Commandant, Major General Amal Karunasekara (Rtd).

The mobilization of the Army's first Western Province-based Mobile COVID-19 Vaccination Fleet that prioritizes the vaccination of the elderly, sick, handicapped and feeble sections in society, a combined effort of the Sri Lanka Army Medical Corps (SLAMC), Directorate of Preventive Medicine and Mental Health, Directorate of Supply and Transport, Sri Lanka Signal Corps, Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police, Brigadier Chandana Arangala, Brigadier Coordinator, NOCPCO started off this morning (12) from the Army Headquarters in the presence of its brainchild, General Shavendra Silva, Head, National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO), Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army.

The Tokyo Paralympic Games- 2020, scheduled to be held in Japan from 24 August to 5 September, for which the National Paralympic Committee of Sri Lanka (NPC) has fielded a nine-strong contingent of athletes, of whom seven athletes are from the Sri Lanka Army.
