  • 'API WENUWEN API ' HOUSING PROJECT - KANDY 2ND STAGE

    'API WENUWEN API ' HOUSING PROJECT - KANDY 2ND STAGE A Hundred houses completed under the second stage of 'Api Wenuwen Api ' housing project for war heroes in Kandy district were handed over to their new owners today (10 September 2015) by His Excellency the President Maithripala Sirisena. The state function was held at the Auditorium of the Defence Services College, Colombo. Sixty Nine (69) Army, Seventeen (17) Navy and Fourteen (14) Air Force personnel were beneficiaries of the second stage. In addition, two hundred and seventy one (271) service personnel received financial assistance for partially constructed houses. Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, Mr. Karunasena Hettiarachchi, Chief of Defence Staff, Tri Forces Commanders, senior government officials, military officers and families of beneficiaries attended this occasion.

  • NAVY WINS DEFENCE SERVICES GAMES

    Sri Lanka Navy won the championship of Defence Services Games 2014 by securing 107 gold medals. General Jagath Jayasuriya, Chief of Defence Staff who graced the closing ceremony as the chief guest presented the Champions Shield to Sri Lanka Navy Team at a spectacular ceremony held at the Sugathadasa Stadium on 5 November 2014. Sri Lanka Air Force and Sri Lanka Army secured second and third places of the Defence Services Games, which is conducted every two years to bring out the sporting talents of Armed Forces personnel. The event was witnessed by distinguished invitees including Commanders of the Army, Navy and Air Force, a large number of service personnel and sports fans.
