  • MAJOR GENERAL NILANTHA PREMARATNE ASSUMES DUTIES AS THE NEW COS OF THE OCDS

    During a solemn ceremony, Major General Nilantha Premaratne RSP USP psc of Sri Lanka Artillery, the former General Officer Commanding of the 23 Infantry Division, assumed office as the Chief of Staff (COS) of the Office of the Chief of Defence Staff (OCDS) at an auspicious moment on 07 May 2024. The new COS assumed the office succeeding Major General Asanga Perera who was the former Chief of Staff at OCDS. The auspicious moment was marked by Major General Premaratne signing an official document, symbolizing the formal acceptance of his new responsibilities. Later, he was briefed by the respective heads of the OCDS, providing him with a comprehensive understanding of the office's responsibilities.

    In a resounding demonstration of long-standing military cooperation and mutual admiration, General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) of Sri Lanka, received a spectacular military guard of honour comprising the Indian Tri-Services during his recent official visit to India. The literal red carpet treatment upon his arrival underscored the warmth and importance of the occasion. General Shavendra Silva visited India at the invitation extended by the Indian CDS, General Anil Chauhan PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, SM, VSM to grace the Passing Out Parade of the Indian Military Academy (IMA). In line with the visit, the Sri Lankan CDS also visited and had bilateral discussions with the Indian Secretary Defence, CDS, Chief of Naval Staff, and a few other military hierarchies.
